A great day of Fun and Fundraising!

April 22nd, 2010

Our Family Day April 10 fundraiser wound up on a very positive note — but not without a few sleepless nights in the lead-up to the event for yours truly.
It was our very first event. We are a fairly new charity so we wondered if we would be successful or have the whole thing be a painful learning experience.
I have done many successful fundraisers but have never planned and pulled off a family event day so we were venturing into unfamiliar waters.
We decided to sell tickets on-line. We reasoned thousands of people would see our advertising resulting in the sale of hundreds of tickets well in advance of the event.
But only a few weeks before the big day, we’d sold less than 100 tickets and we began to feel we had set the bar too high in expecting to raise $50,000.
For a short while we lost our minds! We forgot all things are possible when we trust in the Lord. We removed all doubts, prayed for His strength, tapped into our reservoir of energy and did everything we could to promote and sell tickets.
Thanks to everyone who supported us because we came very close to our goal by raising more than $45,000.
It was a positive and happy day of fun and fundraising.

HAVE FUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE ON SATURDAY APRIL 10

March 31st, 2010

In 10 days, we will see the results of our many hours of hard work. On Saturday, April 10, we will host our first fundraiser at an amazing venue, the Ezone!
There will be something fun to do — literally every second — plus all you can eat and drink, and of course, the silent and live auction. Visit our auction page and see the amazing items you can bid on.
This event is for all ages, so if you’re like my friend with four young children, you will love the idea of having somewhere to go where you can let your hair down, do a little (auction) shopping and have your children in the child-minding area where they are supervised, having fun and getting their pictures taken with some of their favourite Disney and Marvel comics icons.
The afternoon of April 10 is for everyone! It’s for you to release all your worries and stress for a few hours, it’s for your children to have fun, it’s for your grandparents to feel young again and it’s for the abused and orphaned children in Belize who desperately need a new home.

Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another

February 2nd, 2010

We are getting so close to accomplishing our first goal of completing the volunteer house.
I can see the groups of people, families, individuals and couples from all over the world staying there, enjoying a traditional Belize meal or ordering pizza or better yet, having a great BBQ after spending the afternoon with the children. Outside on the patio a school group is planning a day trip to Herman’s Blue National Park. The house is full of excitement as everyone talks about the main reason they are there; to help with the next goal of starting construction of the main building. This will be ‘Home’ for the children and Leonie.

My friends this is going to be a big task and we are gearing up for it.
We have started by making a few exciting changes and additions to ensure that you are kept up to date with everything we are doing.
We have entered the world of Twitter and we have a FHC Facebook Group.
You will know what we are doing currently and what we are planning to do.
See and experience the positive changes happening for 45 children because of you, your time, your donation and your support.

We invite you, your family and friends to join us on April 10, 2010 at the Ezone for an afternoon of fun, food and fundraising.
Check out our event page for more information.

Hope to see you all on April 10, 2010 or in Belize soon.

Thank you and goodbye 2009. Hello 2010

As we wind up an unforgettable decade with the first black president of the United States firmly in power for the past year, 2009 was difficult for many of us. The recession still has a tight grip on the economy and many have lost their jobs. But while we deal with the challenges of life, we also give thanks for the many luxuries and small mercies we enjoy in our daily lives.

For me personally, 2009 was the year I became part of an incredible organization that truly changes lives. Because being involved with For His Children has allowed me to meet 49 beautiful children in Belize who are in need of a new home. Nobody deserves it more than they do.

With five extraordinary volunteers, I had the pleasure of seeing the Blue Hole in Belize. And, while I know this was a trying year for many of us, I know there are amazing people like you who believe in helping those who are suffering. Thank you.

I haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions because I believe it is what I think and do each day that will lead to a great year and help me accomplish my goals. What will you be thinking about and doing today to help you get closer to your goals?

All I want for Christmas is two tables and chairs

November 16th, 2009

Well to be more exact 32 single beds, 4 queen size beds, 24 ceiling fans, stove, fridge, and the list continues (please see below).

In the summer we started building the volunteer house, which will accommodate the many groups, familes and individuals who will be volunteering their time to help build the main home for the children living at the King’s Children Home. Read the rest of this entry »

They say that many hands make the work light. I say that many small pockets can build a large home

October 17th, 2009

Okay, I have this idea that may seem crazy to some, but for those who know me, I’m a bit crazy and also very optomistic.
If you’ve read my previous blogs you know that we need to build a new home for the 45 children living at King’s Children Home (KCH). The volunteer House is almost completed, hurray!
Now we must focus on the main home.
My idea is the 10,000 x 10 Campaign. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes! You Can Make A Difference

October 14th, 2009

Sometimes we give to a good cause and wonder, “are we making a difference?”

When it comes to the King’s Children Home, there is no question. Yes, you are! Read the rest of this entry »

Simply Happy

September 28th, 2009

A big part of our trip to Belize was spending time with the children at King’s Children Home. We played games, shared dance steps, had one on one discussions and prepared a hamburger dinner for everyone. We were exhausted after cooking one meal for more than 50 people. How do they do it three times each and every day? Wow! Read the rest of this entry »

Just Like the Pictures

September 25th, 2009

It’s one thing to hear about The King’s Children Home and see pictures; it is an entirely different world to be there.

As we drove to the home I noticed the blue building immediately, it really was just like  the pictures. I recognized the play area and the yellow slide that is in the pictures; however the broken teeter totter, the swing set without the swings and the rocks — well, they were not in the pictures. What's The Big Hoopla About Building A New King's Children Home?

September 23rd, 2009

Since May I have been sending out information about the building project. We’re constructing a new home for 49 children who now live in a five-bedroom house, where 20 boys share one bedroom. Picturing 20 young boys in one room is enough for anyone to agree a new home with more space is necessary.

It’s more than just space, it’s a sweet dream. Read the rest of this entry »
