 For His Children was conceived upon Rob’s return to Canada in January, 2008 after his visit to King’s Children Home in Belize. Rob became determined to make a personal impact to improve the conditions of the children’s home and to provide a more sustainable future. He began to pave the foundation for an organization with a mission and philosophy solely devoted to the purpose of helping children living in orphanages in the under developed world with the focus on the long term needs of the children – spiritually, physically, economic and social programs.
Rob is a businessman/entrepreneur and a philanthropist. He is a devoted father of four grown daughters (his first grandchild is due this summer). Rob is an active member of his community, having volunteered with various Christian organizations both local and international. He has had the opportunity to take numerous humanitarian trips to Africa and to Belize. It was in 2001 while on a missions trip Belize where Rob and his eldest daughter Nicole were first introduced to the children of KCH. The trip was meant to give back and to make an impact on those in need. What they did not expect was that the biggest impact was to be made on themselves. Their hearts were touched in a big way.
Since that first trip, Rob has returned countless times with different members of his family and also with friends. Anyone who would lend an ear would hear stories of the children and of Leonie the founder of the home. Over time, the needs of the home lay heavy on his heart. In January, 2008 Rob was invited to attend their local Board of Directors meeting and he was elected International Chair of the Board. This was a big commitment and one that Rob did not take lightly. It was an honour to be trusted to take on this responsibility.
It was at this time that Rob felt that the pressing needs of the home needed to be addressed soon. The current building was tired, repairs were constant, there was no room for the children to play and learn and the rooms were crowded with the furnishing in disrepair. Most concerning of all was that there was no steady means of monthly income.
With much prayer and council, Rob put words into action to establish a Canadian registered charity with the primary purpose is to assist children’s homes such as KCH. Thus, For HIS Children was established in order to assist and impact orphaned and vulnerable children living in developing world. |
